Young female Formula Ford racer Chelsea Angelo might be in the process of stepping up to the Dunlop V8 Supercar Series in 2014, but this weekend there is another National debut to deal with.
The Evans Motorsport Group driver is making the transition from Victorian Formula Ford to racing at the national level.
Angelo, who’s 17, has shown tremendous pace during her short tenure in Formula Ford but this step up from the Victorian Championship to the Australian Formula Ford Championship will further challenge her skills, ability and determination.
It’s also a test of her nerve and Angelo admits to having nerves, “A while ago I was a bit nervous… I’ve seen a couple of national rounds up in Townsville and Ipswich so I am definitely not feeling as nervous. I’ve got a little bit of nerves but more excitement.”
Despite the anticipation, Angelo expects to do well in her first national outing.
“The goal for me is to possibly try to get into the top ten of the field. If I could do that I’d be really happy with that.”
Depending on how she fares at Winton, it will determine whether Angelo has another go in the three remaining rounds of the Australian Championship or revert back to racing only in the Victorian championship.
“We’ll see how we go from there. We’ll still continue to do the state series this year, but if we do good in the national series or this national round then we’ll see, we may consider if we do another national round or not.”
Angelo is hoping to schedule herself some more seat time in the team’s FG Falcon in preparation for her 2014 campaign in the Dunlop Series… which also has her feeling the nerves.
“Definitely excited about it, still a little bit nervous but hopefully we can get some more test days in the V8 Supercars and be ready for 2014.”
“I hope to see a few more just to get my speed up and learn a bit more about the car.”
