WAMS ANNOUNCES MAJOR PARTNERSHIP WITH MAZDA FOR AGP LUNCHEON
The Women of Australian Motor Sport (WAMS) has today announced Mazda as the naming rights partner of its second annual luncheon at the 2013 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix this week.
To be held on Thursday at the CAMS corporate platform, the 2013 WAMS Luncheon proudly supported by Mazda will bring together many leaders in the sports, business and media fields together, including recently announced special guest speaker Monisha Kaltenborn, team principal of the Sauber Formula One team and FIA Women in Motorsport Ambassador.
“We can’t thank Mazda enough for supporting our luncheon and for believing in the work we’re trying to do in the hope of inspiring more women to participate in all roles within Australian motor sport,” said Belinda Taylor, Chairperson of Women of Australian Motor Sport, and Australia’s delegate to the FIA’s Women and Motor Sport Commission.
“There’s so many great contributions made by women in the sport and our own committee members are walking proof of that with extensive experience in race driving, officiating, administration and the media. We’re excited that Mazda is so keen to help us promote the message that women can achieve great things in motor sport and we, in turn, will be backing their involvement in the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge. We’re hoping the girls they can give the guys a run for their money!” added Taylor.
Alastair Doak, Mazda Australia’s national marketing manager, said the brand was proud to support the WAMS vision and those women wanting to make a professional career within the sport.

Women of Australian Motor Sport (WAMS) was established in 2010 with the aim of increasing female participation across all facets of motor sport in Australia. Within motor sport, only 18% of participants are women, and with such a low retention rate it is crucial to develop programs to keep women in the sport, as well as create leadership pathways and opportunities for future development of women in motor sport. In 2010 the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) created the Women & Motor Sport Commission (WMC) to address this challenge on a global scale and a similar committee was established here in Australia.
All members of WAMS are volunteers and have extensive experience in various roles within motor sport. Members are currently involved as drivers, officials, administrators, team personnel and the media. Each member dedicates much of their own time, expertise and resources into making WAMS a committee of action not just words.
