The Women of Australian Motor Sport (WAMS) Committee today announces Catherine McHugh as the 2018 recipient of the WAMS Singapore Officials Exchange Program.
A silver communicator for several years, McHugh began in 2008 at her home track Hidden Valley in communication and timing, before jumping at the chance to official at the wet season sport of Mud Racing in a variety of roles before her first Supercars Race at Hidden Valley in 2009.
Moving from one remote area to another, the now Townsville resident has attended events in her home state, despite no local dedicated motor sports complex or drag strip.
Passionate about volunteering in regional areas and helping other women in the sport, McHugh is looking forward to her first Formula 1 event.
“While in Singapore I’m keen to learn as much as possible to be able to bring this knowledge back to share with other women who are wanting to advance their learning and experiences within our motor sport community” says Mc Hugh. “I believe this opportunity will enable me to strive to be a better team member, leader and mentor and pave the way for other women from regional areas to achieve their goals.”
“I am proud to be a part of the WAMS community of strong, accomplished women encouraging, supporting and celebrating other women’s achievements in our sport and look forward to this next step in my motor sports journey.”
Now entering its 6th year, the program is one of WAMS’ signature programs designed to promote and encourage the participation of female motor sport officials in both countries. It has received strong support from the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS), the Singapore Motor Sport Association (SMSA) and the FIA Women in Motor Sport Commission (WMC) since inception. In exchange for McHugh going to Singapore, earlier this year WAMS welcomed Sabrina Quek from Singapore to participate in her part of the program at the 2018 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne this past March.
The 2017 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, under lights at the Marina Bay Circuit, will be held from September 14-16, 2018
